Looking for something fun and different to do this weekend? Do you appreciate all the nonprofit organizations in town that do great things in our community?
Well, here are a few options you may want to consider.
The Fountain Valley Rotary Club will hold its second “Bowl A Strike for Students” bowling tournament Saturday, April 28 at Fountain Bowl. The event, which begins at 4 p.m., will include dinner, a silent auction and opportunity drawings for prizes.
Funds support local schools, students and teachers.
Several sponsorship levels and advertising opportunities may still be available. For more information, call Marla McGee at 714-394-5856.
All proceeds go to the Fountain Valley Rotary Charitable Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit group.
Also, on Saturday, the Fountain Valley Friends of the Library will hold its popular garden sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the library’s outdoor patio, 17635 Los Alamos St. Plants and garden books will be available for sale.
For more information, call 714-402-6121.
And you’ll also want to check out the Orange County Chapter of the American Sewing Guild’s annual yard sale at The Fount Church here in Fountain Valley. There will be lots of fabrics, notions, yarns, laces and – according to the Guild’s press release — all things sewing- and fiber-related available.
As a bona fide senior citizen I pay close attention to anything that’s fiber-related. But enough with the sewing jokes, so I’ll button this up.
Funds raised by the Sewing Guild support the chapter’s community service projects, programs and scholarships to students studying fashion and design.
The sale is set for 8 a.m. to noon. The Fount is at 18225 Bushard St.
Let me add one more event to your calendar, but this one is on the weekend of May 5-6.
The Mary Lou Heard Memorial Garden Tour will feature dozens of gardens throughout Southern California, including four in Fountain Valley.
The garden tour is a yearly, self-guided charity event held by the Mary Lou Heard Foundation, a nonprofit organization. There is no charge to take the tour. Donations received at the host gardens on tour days will go to Sheepfold, a shelter for women in crisis and their children.
The four Fountain Valley gardens on the tour belong to: Debbie Freeman, 9109 Cardinal Ave.; Helen and Denny Bolen, 8761 La Zana Court; Joan and Bill O’Toole, 17179 Santa Suzanne St.; and Kathy and Lynn Ericksen, 8557 Phoenix Ave.
