WESTMINSTER — A Westminster man, who was shot by Fountain Valley police after driving through a crash scene last fall, was charged Wednesday with drunken driving and assault on a peace officer.
Matthew Earl Snoyman, 34, faces two felony counts of assault with a weapon — not a firearm — on peace officers and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.
At 5:16 a.m. last Oct. 14, officers were investigating a fatal crash that had occurred hours earlier at Magnolia Street and Mint Avenue when the suspect drove a pickup truck through the barricades, police said. He then did a U-turn and drove at the officers at the crash scene again, triggering the officer-involved shooting, police said.
Snoyman was not seriously injured in the shooting, authorities said.
Arraignment is scheduled for next Wednesday at the West Justice Center.
