Elite-level softball will be on display Friday, July 27 at Bill Barber Park in Irvine with the PGF High School All-American Game and the 18-and-under Premier championship game.

The Register’s reigning softball player and female athlete of year, Kelli Godin of Mater Dei, and All-County shortstop Jasmine Sievers of Capistrano Valley will represent Orange County on the West team in the All-American game at 7:30 p.m. The recent high school graduates signed with UCLA and Oregon, respectively.

The third annual All-American game will air live on ESPNU.

The 18-and-under final is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will also be broadcast live on ESPNU.

The first session of the PGF national championships started Saturday with about 270 teams competing in three age-group divisions (10s, 12, 18s)  throughout Orange County. The 18-and-under division features contenders such as the Corona Angels, Cruisers, Firecrackers and Georgia Impact.

“You’re not considered the best in the country unless you win Premier Girls Fastpitch,” said Dan Hay, president and CEO of PGF. “This event is the best of the best in the country. … The 18-and-under division will be the top kids in the College World Series next year. This the grand-daddy of all the events.”
