Mercantile takes over General Store space
The Mercantile opened Nov. 23 in Huntington Beach, in the large space that was once The General Store.
The General Store, which closed more than six years ago, was a wonderful combination of unique gifts, a pharmacy and a post office. Now, the space has a new look, a gorgeous chandelier and perfectly displayed merchandise.
I spent a lot of time looking at everything in The Mercantile … clothing, jewelry, soaps, designer towels, one-of-a-kind gift items, a section just for babies and much, much more. It was easy to do a bit of holiday shopping.
Free gift wrapping? Yes.
I will most definitely return very soon. The Mercantile is at 15802 Springdale St. near Edinger Avenue. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday (but will be open Sundays, Dec. 15 and Dec. 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Information: TheMercantileHB.com or 714-951-9118.
What happened to A New Day?
A sign in the window of A New Day Thrift Store says “Closed Until Further Notice.” The phone is disconnected too.
I enjoyed this little store and visited several times since it opened more than four years ago. It’s in Huntington Beach at 15481 Goldenwest St. near McFadden Avenue.
For New Year’s Eve, how about a ‘Celabration’

Turner’s Outdoorsman
One of my relatives loves to fish. He’s on my holiday list, and I immediately thought of Turner’s Outdoorsman. I am always impressed with the variety of merchandise the store has for archery, hunting and fishing enthusiasts.
However, picking out just the right gift for Derek, my cousin, wasn’t easy. Solution? I got him a gift card. Perfect.
Turner’s Outdoorsman is in Fountain Valley at 18808 Brookhurst St. near Ellis Avenue. Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Information: turners.com or 714-965-5151.
