We are a less than a week away from kicking off 2019. While we may still be busy wrapping up our holiday festivities, I thought I would remind you of five worthwhile dates to circle on your calendar for the start of the new year. There’s a little something for everyone.
Jan. 25: The Center at Founders Village Senior and Community Center will host its annual Winter Dance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. This is always a popular evening that features refreshments, dancing and music.
MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center and MemorialCare Medical Group are partnering with the city to present the event. For tickets and information, call the Center at Founders Village at 714-593-4446. The Center at Founders Village is at 17967 Bushard St.
Jan. 29: The Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce will welcome Mayor Steve Nagel for the annual State of the City luncheon. The mayor will provide an update on city issues and priorities, including a look at how Fountain Valley has changed and what city officials see for the future.
The luncheon will include a panel discussion on the vision for the community and how to tackle some of the most pressing challenges.
Questions from the audience will be answered if time permits.
The luncheon is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Los Caballeros Sports Village banquet room, 17272 Newhope St. Cost is $25 per person for chamber members and $30 for guests. For more information, call 714-962-3822.
Feb. 2: The FV Fit Body Boot Camp 5K Fun Run presented by Nathan is set for 8 a.m. at the Fountain Valley Sports Park. Once again, this fun, family event will have a superhero theme, so dress up like your favorite action hero.
Cost is $25 general, $15 ages 6-12 through Jan. 25; $30 general, $20 ages 6-12 thereafter. Children under 6 are free. The Sports Park is at 16400 Brookhurst St.

Feb. 2: OC Parks invites families to learn about Monarch butterflies and their natural habitat during the 10th annual Monarch Butterfly Day at Mile Square Regional Park.
Activities will include interpretive presentations, children’s crafts, face-painting and a balloon artist. The event is recommended for ages 4 to 12.
Monarch Butterfly Day is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be held at the park’s Forest Shelter. The event and parking are free. Food trucks will be on site.

Feb. 2: Check out the monthly Fountain Valley Historical Society Open House, set for 9 to 11 a.m. at Heritage Park.
Heritage Park is home to several historical buildings, including the Courreges Ranch tank house, Japanese bath house and Talbert real estate office. The park is at 17641 Los Alamos St., next to the library.
