The pop-up See’s Candies in Fountain Valley served many happy customers over the holiday season. Now, it’s scheduled to reopen Jan. 24 in plenty of time for your Valentine’s Day needs.

California Brittle? Molasses Chips? Truffles? Pick up a box and make someone’s heart happy.

See’s Candies will be at 18493 Brookhurst St. near Ellis Avenue. Information: sees.com or 800-347-7337.

Tuba’s Gyros & Pizza

Tuba’s Gyros & Pizza is open in the spot that used to be LaRocco’s Pizza in Huntington Beach. I am excited to try the falafel wrap and shwarma (thinly sliced meats that fit perfectly in pita bread, or that can be eaten all by themselves).

Burgers and pizza are also on the menu. And for dessert, have your own piece of house-made baklava … or feel free to share this melt-in-your-mouth delicacy.

Tuba’s Gyros & Pizza is at 327 11th St. near Pacific Coast Highway. Hours: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Information: tubasgyrosandpizzas.com or 714-374-2555.

Wine dinner

Bluegold is presenting its first wine dinner of 2019, set for 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29. The dinner will feature dishes paired with Foley Family Wines in an upscale atmosphere close to the ocean. And the service is impeccable.

Bluegold is in Huntington Beach at 21016 Pacific Coast Highway, Suite D-200, near Main Street. Information: 714-374-0038.

New Japanese restaurant

The Japanese restaurant California Shabu will be opening in Fountain Valley, in the former Applebee’s location at 18908 Brookhurst St. near Garfield Avenue. No opening date has been announced.

At California Shabu, you’ll be the master of your own meal. You’ll pick the meat and veggies, heat them to your satisfaction, and add condiments and sauces. Like your food spicy? Ask for hot drops. I can’t wait for this place to open.

Information: 714-963-8844.

Sugar exfoliation

Have you experienced sugaring?

It’s an exfoliating process using an all-natural paste made of sugar, water and lemon. You can get the gentle sugaring technique at The Sweet Spot. Ask about facials, too.

The Sweet Spot is in Huntington Beach at 7862 Warner Ave. near Beach Boulevard. Information: thesweetspothb.com or 714-651-4674.
