For the ninth straight year, the Center at Founders Village will present its Fit and Fabulous Fashion Show, a fundraiser for senior services in the city. This year’s show, with the theme “Everything’s Coming Up Fashion,” is set for noon Monday, Feb. 25.
This is always an enjoyable, sellout event, and this year I have a special interest in the show – my wife, Lynn, who recently attained senior status, is among the local women modeling clothes from Soft Surroundings.
Cost is $20 per ticket, which includes lunch. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
This year’s sponsors are the Fountain Valley Community Foundation, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center, MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center, Heritage Memorial, MemorialCare Medical Group, Monarch Health Care and the city of Fountain Valley.
The Center at Founders Village is at 17967 Bushard St. Information: 714-593-4446.
Here’s something else to put on your calendar: As you may know, the FV Fit Body Boot Camp 5K Fun Run Presented by Nathan, originally planned for Feb. 2, was postponed because of bad weather. That means you can still sign up for the event, which has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 31.
The Fun Run has a superhero theme, so you’re likely to spot action heroes racing through the park. And this year’s race will include a certified course and race timing, organizers said.
The 5K is open to all ages but there will be a one-mile run before the main event for children and others unable to run the longer course. The fun run starts at 7:45 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place runners for each age group.
The event supports dozens of Fountain Valley nonprofits, which receive $22 for each paid adult registration and $12 for each child registration. Registration is $30 general; $20 age 6-12; children under 6 are free. The Sports Park is at 16400 Brookhurst St. To learn more, visit fvcommunityfoundation.org.
One last program note, since we are on the subject of the Community Foundation: The next Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament is set for Saturday, March 23 at the Center at Founders Village Senior and Community Center.
This is a charity tournament with your registration fee going directly to the nonprofit you designate.
Cost to register online is $25; go to fvcommunityfoundation.org. Or you can register for $30 starting at 5:15 p.m. the night of the tournament. The first hand is dealt at 6 p.m.
It’s a fun evening that includes food and beverages and a silent auction.
