When spring arrives, I’m pretty much a creature of habit.
In Fountain Valley, there are annual events this time of year that are always on my calendar. I thought I would mention a few that I really look forward to, in case you’re interested in checking them out yourself.
One of my favorites: The Knights of Columbus will hold its Lenten fish bakes from 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays, beginning March 8, and continuing March 15, 22, 29 and April 5 and 12 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 17279 Ward St. The menu features fried fish; vegetables; Vietnamese shrimp, tomatoes, tofu (mmmmm good!) and rice noodles; French fries; cole slaw; clam chowder; and macaroni and cheese.
Beer and wine also will be available for purchase.
Cost of the dinner is $10 for adults, $6 for children; free for children under 6. More information: 714-963-1811.
Looking for a great breakfast idea for a good cause?
The Old Car Breakfast Group will hold its annual fundraising breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 at a new location, Applebee’s, 2800 N. Main St., in Santa Ana.
The breakfast raises funds for the Fountain Valley Classic Car & Truck Show, which is held each year during the city’s Summerfest at the Fountain Valley Sports Park. (I’ll be writing a lot more about Summerfest over the next few months.)
The breakfast will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and a choice of coffee or juice. (Sorry, tofu isn’t on the menu for this one.)
Those attending are invited to drive their old (classic and restored) cars. After the breakfast, attendees are invited to visit a local car-related business at 10 a.m. That may sound ominous, but car show organizer Pete Haak likes to pique the interest of attendees by unveiling the location at the last moment.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Center at Founders Village Senior & Community Center, 17967 Bushard St.
You might also want to check out the Fountain Valley Woman’s Club’s ninth annual Spring Scholarship Social, this year set for April 13. This event also has a new venue: The social will be held at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center, 16400 Brookhurst St.
Proceeds from the event benefit the club’s scholarship program. Cost is $40.
The social is set for 5:30 p.m. and will include raffles and auctions, dinner and a murder-mystery show. For more information, call Georgette Sleeth at 714-206-0156.
