There are lots of ways to raise funds for good causes in Fountain Valley.
Here’s one of my favorites: The Kiwanis Club of Fountain Valley and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fountain Valley will team up for the 11th annual “Pins for Kids” Bowling on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Fountain Bowl.
Besides enjoying a fun evening of bowling with friends, you can help provide before- and after-school care, full-day programs during summer and school holidays, sports leagues and more at the Boys & Girls Clubs.
The Fountain Valley Kiwanis Club Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization composed of business and professional leaders dedicated to serving the children in the local community.
There is room for 60 teams of four bowlers, and teams are being signed up now. Cost to bowl is $300 per team of four bowlers, which includes bowling, dinner and goodie bags for each bowler.
There are several opportunities for local businesses to get involved with the tournament.
- Become a sponsor: Your business will be promoted through electronic ads at Fountain Bowl, logo placement on an event T-shirt and signage at the event.
- Register a team: Enjoy a night of fun and community building. Bring co-workers, friends or family members.
- Donate an item for the event’s silent auction or opportunity drawing.
Various sponsorship levels are available, including $2,500 gold sponsorships, $1,250 silver sponsorships, $600 bronze sponsorships and $100 lane sponsorships.
The evening begins at 5 p.m. with registration and the opening of a silent auction. A barbecue dinner will be served starting at 5:15 p.m., with dessert provided by Mangiamo Gelato Caffé. At 5:45 p.m., Fountain Bowl Co-President Dave Osborn will announce the winners of the Kelly Osborn Foundation scholarships.
Bowling begins at 6:30 p.m. Opportunity drawing winners will be announced at 7:45 p.m., the silent auction closes at 8:15 p.m., and bowling awards will be presented at 8:30 p.m.

Speaking of fundraising, don’t forget that the Friends of the Fountain Valley Library will hold its popular bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at the library. Miscellaneous kitchen items also will be for sale. Proceeds benefit the Friends and the Friends Bookstore. The library is at 17635 Los Alamos St.
