Fountain Valley PD wants senior volunteers
If you’re 55 or older and have a desire to serve the community, the Fountain Valley Police Department is accepting applications for its Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Established in 1990, RSVP provides an opportunity for retired people to assist and support the activities of their police department.
RSVP members perform services such as checking vacation houses, removing illegal signs, issuing parking citations, reporting graffiti, and fingerprinting, according to the police department’s website.
Members of the program are selected for service through a competitive interview process. They receive in-depth classroom and field training which includes radio codes and procedures, and lessons on how to issue a parking citation, take fingerprints and conduct residential vacation checks.
Upon graduation from the program, they are sworn in by the chief of police and work with other RSVP members.
So, what can you expect if you are chosen for the program? You will wear an RSVP uniform, complete the RSVP training and volunteer approximately 20 hours a month.
If you are 55 or older, retired, in good health and would like to volunteer, call Joanne Minney at the Police Department Crime Prevention Office, 714-593-4526, or go to fountainvalley.org/714/Retired-Senior-Volunteer-Program and click the link to submit an “Interest Card.”
