FOUNTAIN VALLEY Seeking to expand its pool of qualified volunteer candidates, the city has extended its deadline for applicants for its citizen commissions and boards until 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25.
Appointments are for two years and openings exist on the Planning Commission, Community Foundation, Measure HH Oversight Committee, Housing and Community Development Advisory Board and Advisory Committee for the Disabled.
The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the council regarding development in the city, subdivision of land, zoning, blight and elements of the city’s master plan. It meets monthly at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month.
The Community Foundation solicits, receives and disperses money for charitable services as well as annual activities in Fountain Valley such as the Summerfest and Summer Concert Series. Experience with nonprofit organizations is desirable. Meets at 5 :30 on the third Thursday monthly.
The Measure HH oversight committee was formed as a watchdog to review the city’s spending of revenue from its 1 percent sales tax increase revenue. The committee reviews the city’s annual audited financial statement and budget and reports its findings to the public and City Council annually. Meetings are called as needed.
The Housing and Community Development Advisory Board reviews the city’s federal block grants and recommends housing/community development activities to the City Council. Meetings are at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.
The Advisory Committee for the Disabled advocates for disability issues ranging from access to recreation activities such as the disabled dances, to emergency preparedness. Meeting are at 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of odd-numbered months.
