The new year is upon us, though many of us are still working to move ahead from the 2019 holiday season. I, for one, am hoping to take down our four Christmas trees sometime before March.

In the meantime, you might want to get out your calendars and take note:

The Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce will host the 2020 Fountain Valley State of the City Luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at The Center at Founders Village Senior & Community Center. The luncheon, set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature comments from Mayor Cheryl Brothers, City Manager Rob Houston, Planning Director Brian James and Community Services Director Rob Frizelle.

This is a highly informative event and I recommend making the time to be there.

Tickets are $35 for chamber members and $45 for non-members. Sponsorships for the luncheon are available by calling the chamber office at 714-962-3822.

To register for the luncheon, go to fvchamber.com/events/details/state-of-the-city-5277. Founders Village is at 17967 Bushard St.

Evolution of Orange County

The Fountain Valley Historical Society’s general meeting is set for Sunday, Jan. 26 at Heritage Park, next to the library. You don’t have to be a Historical Society member to attend the luncheon. Cost is $10. To make a reservation call Sharon Cope at 714-963-3594.

Guest speaker geologist Eldon Gath will talk about how Orange County has evolved from 1 million years ago to what it is today.

Fashion show fundraiser

Looking ahead to February, the 10th annual Fit & Fabulous Fashion Show is set for noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 at the Center at Founders Village Senior & Community Center.

“Passion for Fashion” is the theme of this year’s show, which features local senior women modeling clothing from Soft Surroundings in Seal Beach.

Those attending will enjoy a scrumptious lunch and have an opportunity to do some shopping for accessories and jewelry. The fashion show is a fundraiser, benefiting senior services in Fountain Valley. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.

Tickets, at $20, are now on sale at the senior center front desk.

Founders Village is at 17967 Bushard St. For more information, call 714-593-4446.
