Spring is here, if you base it on the increased activity on the ball fields at the Fountain Valley Sports Park.
Here’s a look at what local youth sports leagues are doing to kick off the 2020 spring seasons there:
Fountain Valley Girls Fastpitch Softball will hold opening ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28. Opening day games are Saturday.
League officials say Fountain Valley Girls Fastpitch Softball emphasizes sportsmanship, fellowship, self-coordination and teamwork.
The league is divided into five divisions beginning at the age 6-and-younger level and continuing to the 14-year-old level. Players come from Fountain Valley, Westminster, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, Costa Mesa and Santa Ana.

Fountain Valley Pony Baseball will hold opening day ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29. FVPB, an affiliate of Pony National Baseball, is open to youngsters ages 4 to 14.
Known originally as Fountain Valley Boys Baseball, the league was re-incorporated as Fountain Valley Youth Baseball In 1975. In 1976, league officials made the decision to become affiliated with Pony Baseball and became known as Fountain Valley Pony Baseball.
FVPB serves about 1,400 players during its spring and summer seasons. In 2014, it was selected by Major League Baseball as a Top 15 Youth Baseball League in the United States based on judging categories of competition, leadership and development.

Fountain Valley Little League will hold opening day ceremonies from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7.
The league is chartered under the umbrella of Little League International Inc. and Little League District 62 of Southern California. Its focus, officials say, is to provide a safe, instructional and fun environment for Fountain Valley children ages 4 to 14.
