The annual Fountain Valley Classic Car & Truck Show, as many know, has traditionally been held during the city’s annual Summerfest celebration every June.
But like events across the state, Summerfest was canceled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, car show organizers Pete Haak and Ken Vela postponed the 14th annual show until Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Fountain Valley Sports Park.
But Haak and Vela announced last week they are canceling this year’s show “in respect to the statewide COVID-19 Stay at Home order and to protect the health and safety and the well-being of everyone involved.”
At the same time, they announced that the car show has been rescheduled for June 19, 2021. The organizers said they “are hopeful the future date will provide enough time for the Stay at Home order to be lifted and resume normal activities again.“
City officials referenced the state’s COVID-19 Stay at Home website, which includes a FAQ section that reads, in part, “State public health directives prohibit professional, social and community gatherings. Gatherings are defined as meetings or other events that bring together persons from multiple households at the same time for a shared or group experience in a single room, space, or place such as an auditorium, stadium, arena, large conference room, meeting hall, or other indoor or outdoor space.”
In a memo to Haak and Vela and to Prem Balani, president of the Fountain Valley Community Foundation, Community Services Director Rob Frizzelle said, “We greatly appreciate the time and effort put into amending the date and program along with the enthusiasm brought to the 2020 Car and Truck Show. We look forward to the event at a future date.”
Haak said all registered participants as well as vendors and sponsors will have their registrations automatically moved to the new date.
