Glenn Grandis, founding director of Fountain Valley Community Foundation, held a comfortable lead Tuesday night, Nov. 3, in the Fountain Valley City Council race.
Mayor Cheryl Brothers, who has served as a councilwoman on and off since 2002, was neck and neck with pediatrician Mai-Khanh Tran and business owner Ted Bui for the second of two at-large seats. Bui led the unofficial results.

Three other candidates trailed behind: Civil engineer and Fountain Valley School District trustee Jim Cunneen; small business owner Tom Nguyen; and retired medical worker Mary Pham.
Incumbent Steve Nagel opted not to try for a third term this year.
.Fountain Valley allows three four-year terms before council members have to sit it out for at least two years.
