Mile Square Park’s popular annual Kid’s Fishing Derby is planned for March 17 at the park’s North Lake.
Kids ages 6 to 15 can fish for free, competing during the morning for multiple prizes. There will be fishing clinics for learning the tricks of casting a good line. Bring your own fishing pole, a limited number will be available for use.
The lake will be stocked with more than 1,000 pounds of trout and catfish for the 9 a.m. to noon event. Food will be available for purchase.
The two lakes at Mile Square are regularly stocked with catfish. Fishing licenses are required for adult anglers, but those 15 and younger can drop a line for free.
