Curt Seeden: Easter Egg Hunt offers something for everybody

More than 5,000 people are expected to gather at the Fountain Valley Sports Park for the city’s annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 31.

This is a very big event in Fountain Valley, second only to a Measure HH Oversight Committee meeting.

The Easter Egg Hunt is put on by the city’s Recreation and Community Services Department, which goes all out to make sure there’s something for everybody to enjoy.

As I’ve done in the past, I’d like to put the scope of the Easter Egg Hunt into perspective. Perhaps the best way to do that is to examine the numbers.

So here goes:

2: The number of weeks it took Recreation Department staff to jam pieces of candy and trinkets into 18,000 plastic eggs.

21,000: Pieces of candy, stickers, pencils and temporary tattoos that go into the eggs.

1: Number of obstacle courses available for kids

5: Dollar donation cost to park in the preferred parking lot

1:  Face painter

20: Carnival-style games

25: Number of gift basket prizes available from playing carnival games

20: Activity booths

500: Estimated number of pancake breakfasts to be served up by the Kiwanis Club of Fountain Valley

This year’s event is set to start with the pancake breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and continue to 11:30 a.m. The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage and a beverage, and proceeds from the breakfast go toward the Fountain Valley Kiwanis Scholarship Foundation.

A word of advice to parents: You are encouraged to remain out of the hunt areas so children can enjoy the thrill of the hunt. Kids should bring their own basket or sack or wheelbarrow or Republic Services trash bin for their eggs or treats.

The Sports Park is at 16400 Brookhurst St. More information: 714-839-8611.

This year’s sponsors are:

Plastic egg sponsor, Fountain Bowl; Fun zone sponsor, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital.

Title sponsors: Fountain Valley Community Foundation, Fountain Valley Bodyworks, Hop On Senior Transportation, Mimi’s Jewelry, Tom Vo’s Taekwondo, WISP.

Event sponsors: Elemental Bottles, Garcia Chiropractic, Manfred Orthodontics, Republic Services.

Supporting sponsors: Newhope Chiropractic, Pacific Premier Bank.
