Noteworthy: He won the CIF State championship in the 182-pound class with a 5-4 decision over Sonny Kling of Canyon Springs in the final. McDonnell trailed 4-3 in the final minute. With eight seconds remaining he scored two points on a reversal, a move in which a wrestler is underneath an opponent then makes a move to reverse their positions. McDonnell this season won his third CIF Southern Section championship. He signed with Oregon State.
