Fountain Valley Mayor Michael Vo and the City Council will be honored at the annual Mayor’s Ball Nov. 3 at Mile Square Golf Course.
More than 150 people are expected to attend the annual gala. Fountain Valley is one of the few cities in the country that continues the tradition of an annual ball.
The Mayor’s Ball each year is hosted and presented by the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce. It is set for 6 to 10 p.m. and will feature dinner, dancing, a silent auction, drawing opportunities and a photo booth. Cost to attend the black-tie optional event is $80. The evening begins with a cocktail hour from 6 to 7 p.m.
Those attending can enter an opportunity drawing for a custom necklace designed by David Truong of Mimi’s Jewelry. Custom made and designed in collaboration with Vo, the necklace features a 14-kt. white gold diamond dragon fly set with diamonds and a black Tahitian pearl. This piece came to mind during a trip Vo and his wife took to the island of Kauai to celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary. It is valued at $2,500.
This year’s gold sponsors of the Mayor’s Ball are Southern California Edison, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center and Hyundai Motor America. Silver sponsors are Edinger Medical Group, MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center, Rainbow Environmental Services and Ashley Furniture.
Patron sponsors are Slater Investments LLC and the Assistance League of Huntington Beach. In-kind sponsor is Mimi’s Jewelry.
Over the past few years, the theme of the Mayor’s Ball has been left up to the mayor. Two years ago, Cheryl Brothers chose a masquerade theme. The year before, Steve Nagel went with a “rustic chic” theme.
Vo has chosen the more traditional formal theme, better known as black-tie optional. But don’t be surprised if a few people buck the trend and dress in country glam.
It really doesn’t matter how you dress. The idea is to have a good time and support the City Council.
By the way, additional sponsorships are available. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Chamber at 714-962-3822.
Since I’m on the subject of the Chamber of Commerce, remember that this Saturday, Oct. 20, is the chamber’s first Fall Festival & Chili Cook-off. It’s set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fountain Valley Sports Park.
Local businesses, nonprofits and school vendors will have food, crafts and game booths. There also will be entertainment by local schools and dance studios.
The chili cook-off, sanctioned by the International Chili Society, will have three categories: Homestyle, Youth Homestyle and People’s Choice. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place in each category. Entry to the chili contest is free with four gallons or more of chili; $15 for those who bring less than four gallons.
The Sports Park is at 16400 Brookhurst St.
