Each year on the first Saturday of February, there are reports of various superheroes wandering around the Fountain Valley Sports Park.

Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Batman and Superman are often spotted.

That’s thanks to the FV Fit Body Boot Camp 5K Fun Run, which this year is set for Saturday, Feb. 2. The fun family event has a superhero theme, so it’s not unusual to spot your favorite action heroes racing through the park with the rest of the runners.

The event supports dozens of Fountain Valley nonprofits, which receive $22 for each paid adult registration and $12 for each child registration.

And, this year’s race will be taken to a new level with a certified course and race timing, organizers said.

Longtime title sponsor FV Fit Body Boot Camp this year is joined by Nathan, which produces hydration vests, belts, handhelds, bottles, running packs, active visibility and reflective vests, and other gear. Nathan products are distributed by Fountain Valley-based United Sports Brands.

“The Fountain Valley Community Services Department and the Fountain Valley Community Foundation are excited to be teaming up with United Sports and Nathan,” said Rob Frizzelle, the city’s community services director. “We’re looking forward to a collaborative relationship that enhances the quality of life in Fountain Valley.”

Pre-registration is $25 general, $15 children 6 to 12, free for children under 6; cost after Jan. 25 is $30 general, $20 children 6 to 12, free for children under 6.

The 5K is open to all ages but there will be a one-mile run before the main event for children and others unable to run the full 5 kilometers. The fun run starts at 7:45 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place finishers in each age group. The participating group with the most registrations also will receive a movie night provided by the city’s community services department.

The Sports Park is at 16400 Brookhurst St. To learn more, go to fvcommunityfoundation.org.

Fabulous fashion show

Tickets go on sale this week for the always popular Fit and Fabulous Fashion Show, set for Monday, Feb. 25 at The Center at Founders Village Senior and Community Center. Soft Surroundings of Seal Beach will provide the fashions.

The show, which this year has the theme “Everything’s Coming up Fashion,” is set for noon to 2:30 p.m.; doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Cost of a ticket is $20, which includes lunch. They can be purchased at the Center at Founders Village, 17967 Bushard St.

Incidentally, the Center at Founders Village is still looking for sponsors for the show. To find out more, call Nora Webb at the senior center at 714-593-4446.
