Back in early February, the weather decided not to cooperate, prompting postponement of the annual Fountain Valley Fit Body Boot Camp 5K Fun Run.
Well, the Fountain Valley Community Foundation had to look long and hard to find an available weekend date to reschedule. That date is Sunday, March 31. That means for all of you people who may have missed signing up, there’s still time to do so.
Officially, the event is now called the Fountain Valley Fit Body Boot Camp 5K Fun Run Sponsored by Nathan.
The race starts at 8 a.m. at the Fountain Valley Sports Park. Cost is $30 for participants age 13-99 and $20 for children 6-12; it’s free for children under 6. The fee supports dozens of Fountain Valley nonprofits, which receive $22 for each paid adult registration and $12 for each child registration.
If you want to sign up the day of the event, you can do so; registration opens at 7 a.m.
The 5K is open to all ages but there will be a one-mile run before the main event for children and others unable to run the full five kilometers. The fun run starts at 7:45 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place finishers in each age group.
The event will include pre-race activities: vendor and sponsor booths, picture booths, an opening ceremony, and pre-race warmup.
Longtime title sponsor FV Fit Body Boot Camp this year is joined by Nathan, which produces hydration vests, belts, handhelds, bottles, running packs, active visibility and reflective vests, and other gear. Nathan products are distributed by Fountain Valley-based United Sports Brands.
And for the first time, the race will be professionally timed with GPS tracking in all bibs.
Remember, the race theme is “Superhero” and costumes are encouraged. I’m thinking about going as Typo Man.
The Sports Park is at 16400 Brookhurst St. Call 714-839-8611 for more information. To register, go to fvcommunityfoundation.org/160/FV-Fit-Body-Boot-Camp-5K-Run.
And speaking up rescheduled events … the same rain that postponed the 5K also postponed the annual OC Parks Monarch Butterfly Day program scheduled for Feb. 2 at Mile Square Regional Park.
The 10th annual Monarch Butterfly Day is now set for Saturday, May 25. It offers families an opportunity to learn all about Monarch butterflies and their natural habitat. Activities will include interpretive presentations, children’s crafts, face-painting and a balloon artist. The event is recommended for children age 4 to 12.
Monarch Butterfly Day is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be held at the park’s Forest Shelter. The event and parking are free. Food trucks will be on site.
The state legislature in 2004 approved SCR 66, declaring Feb. 5, 2004, and subsequent anniversaries, to be California Western Monarch Day.
For more information about the event, call the park office at 714-973-6600.
